Why NDT?

Our training programs at Ocean fall into four main categories—Core NDT Training, Specialized Techniques, Foundational Industry Skills, and Career Development. Those four categories will teach you the skills needed to thrive in the world of NDT. Read more below about the modules that make up the NDT program.

Core NDT Training

The Ocean Corporation offers comprehensive training in six NDT methods, for both Level I – ensuring basic understanding and operation, and Level II – providing advanced knowledge and application skills in accordance with the American Society of Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Recommended Practice TC-1A (snt-tc-1a):

Visual Testing (VT)Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)Ultrasonic Testing (UT)Radiographic Testing (RT)Eddy Current Testing (ET)
Previous Previous Previous Next Next Next

Visual Testing (VT)

Training encompasses techniques for direct observation and the use of optical tools to identify surface defects, with Level I focusing on basic inspection and Level II on more complex assessments.

Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)

Instruction covers the application of liquid dye to reveal hidden surface flaws, with Level I teaching the fundamentals of dye application and Level II delving into detailed flaw characterization.

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)

The curriculum includes the use of magnetic fields and iron particles to detect discontinuities, with Level I aimed at basic technique application and Level II at interpreting and evaluating indications.

Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

Trainees learn to use sound waves for internal flaw detection, with Level I focusing on basic scanning methods and Level II on advanced techniques like sizing and characterization.

Radiographic Testing (RT)

Our program teaches safe use of X-ray and gamma-ray equipment to visualize internal structures, with Level I covering basic operation and safety, and Level II advancing to complex interpretation of radiographic images.

Eddy Current Testing (ET)

Courses include inducing and analyzing electrical currents to find defects, with Level I providing an introduction to the technique and its applications and Level II offering in-depth knowledge on complex inspections.

Specialized Inspection and Safety

Embark on a journey through the specialized realm of inspection and safety, where precision and vigilance converge to form the backbone of industry excellence. Master the art of identifying material composition, safeguarding against radiological hazards, and navigating complex inspections remotely, all within the framework of rigorous safety protocols.

Materials and Processes

In this critical module of our NDT program, students delve into the fundamental aspects of material sciences, gaining an understanding of the various materials used in industry and their properties. The course covers common discontinuities and defects that can arise from different manufacturing processes. By exploring how materials behave and interact under various conditions and the types of flaws each manufacturing process might introduce, students are equipped to better identify, interpret, and address potential issues in their NDT careers. This knowledge is pivotal for ensuring the integrity and safety of materials in diverse applications.

Basic Welding and Cutting

The Basic Welding and Cutting course focuses on introducing students to essential welding processes and the critical techniques required for their execution. Emphasis is placed on understanding the distinct failure profiles associated with various welding methods such as MIG, TIG, and stick welding. The curriculum is designed to equip students with the ability to identify and mitigate common welding defects like porosity, cracks, and structural deformities to maintain the integrity of the welds. This foundational training is crucial for achieving and maintaining the robustness and reliability demanded in professional welding applications.

Report Writing

Equips students with the essential skills to produce comprehensive and accurate inspection reports. Emphasizing clarity, precision, and technical detail, the course guides students through the principles of effective communication, ensuring that they can document findings and articulate them to stakeholders in a manner that is both understandable and actionable. This module is fundamental for professionals who aim to deliver quality insights and uphold the integrity of the NDT field.

Procedure Writing

Our Procedure Writing module focuses on teaching students the fundamentals of crafting clear and accurate procedural documents essential for NDT operations. Emphasizing industry standards, the training ensures students can produce consistent documentation, crucial for effective communication and operational integrity in the NDT field.
